Cultural Council elects new chair

The Cultural Council of Volusia County, at its first meeting in January, elected Steve Gosney as its new chair and long-standing member Terry White as vice-chair.

"I am proud of Volusia's commitment to cultural institutions through the Cultural Council and hope as chair I can build on past successes of the group," said Gosney, "I welcome input from the people of Volusia County about culture and the arts."  Gosney added he's ready to meet the challenges facing the board in the upcoming year.

Members of the Cultural Council are appointed by the Volusia County Council.  One member from each district and two from each of the at-large positions are selected.  Unless there is a change in the County Council member, Cultural Council board members may serve up to three two-year terms.   The board manages the County's Art in Public Places program and the Community Cultural Grant program and recommends the disbursement of funding for these projects to the County Council.

The Cultural Council also is designated as the Local Arts Agency by the State.  As such, it is responsible for cultural programming within the County and the management of the arts license plate revenue.  The board meets bi-monthly.  All meetings are open to the public.  For more information regarding the Cultural Council, please visit www.celebratingculture.com.
